The
militare
ordine del collare owe their origin to the early military monastic period.
These were combined living norms formed by the unique combination of the
military and the priests in the church to fight against non-believers of
Christianity. Individuals, who aimed at committing themselves to certain
principles, by inculcating principles that led them to lead a noble life,
eventually gave them the title of knighthood. The activities that these knights
were pivoted on were the devotional and religious duties along with a display
of courage and valor if needed to protect the faith in Christ and the religion
on the whole. They were often referred to as the soldiers of Christ as their
ulterior motive was a noble and religious oriented one.
The
knights of this period were more known as monk knights owing to the perfect
blend of military skills, virtuous principle and their undying faith in Christ.
This is one of the main reasons why the orders of chivalry during this period
were named the Military-Monastic one. Members of the knightly class were meant
to fulfill different kinds of duties in certain cases. Not all of them were
made for war and prayer. There was a clear segregation in certain orders of
chivalry so that the distinction made sanctifies in their roles. Lot of principles later merged to bring about a revolutionary change in
the orders of chivalry during this
period.
